This elegant rectangular lidded box is a stunning example of late 19th–early 20th-century Chinese craftsmanship, combining two traditional art forms: wood lacquerware and antique porcelain inlay.

The box is constructed from a solid wood core, coated in layers of glossy black and vibrant red lacquer, and decorated with delicate gold-painted floral scrolls and cloud motifs—creating a rich, opulent effect typical of Jiangsu province’s lacquer tradition. The curved lid features a central inlay of a Ming Dynasty blue and white porcelain shard, depicting a phoenix amid swirling clouds.
