Gorgeous Mary and baby Jesus handmade tile by renowned artist Judy Sutcliffe! It is expertly hand-painted in rich colors and gold haloes, and the mother and child gaze at each other with intimate affection. The back of the tile is cushioned with cork feet and is signed "Judy Sutecliffe" (although her last name is spelled without an "e", so it probably was done later after it was made).
Originally from Wisconsin, Judy Sutcliffe (1941-2021) moved to California in 1979 and became renowned for her custom tile work and plaques. In 1996, she moved back to Wisconsin and opened the Longbranch Gallery in Mineral Point and created the nonprofit folk school Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts.
