A large hand-painted Metepec sun that features a cheerful, expressive face surrounded by vibrant flame-like rays. The design uses a classic polychrome technique with bright turquoise, red, and yellow aniline paints that really pop against the terracotta clay. It has a lot of personality, with detailed molding on the cheeks and lips, plus fun accents like colorful stippled dots and wavy lines throughout the rays. It is a great example of the handmade Mexican folk art that became a staple of the 1990s Global Village Coffeehouse style.
Very good overall vintage condition. Paint shows normal wear consistent with age. There is a small chip on the tip of the lower left ray, but it is not readily noticeable from the front view.
