Jessie E. Woods (1909–2001) was a legendary American aviator and daredevil who broke gender barriers as a co-founder of the Flying Aces Air Circus during the Great Depression. Renowned for her "death-defying" feats, she performed as a wing-walker and parachute jumper—often without a safety chute—while also serving as a skilled mechanic and flight instructor. During World War II, she trained military pilots through the Civil Air Patrol, and her lifelong dedication to flight earned her induction into the Women in Aviation International Pioneer Hall of Fame. Even into her eighties, Woods continued to inspire the aviation community, famously performing a wing-walk at age 82 and cementing her legacy as one of the most resilient and influential women in early aviation history.
