A rare large book on a Dutch antique silver collection. Book in Dutch but richly visualised with photos. A real collectors piece nearly impossible to find online. Check photos and any questions let me know. New and unused. The silver of the Martens-Mulder Foundation forms a unique sub-collection within the Rijksmuseum Twenthe. From drinking cups to salt cellars, teapots, and tobacco boxes: the collection showcases a wealth of masterpieces from Dutch silversmithing of the 17th and 18th centuries. This extraordinary silver collection was assembled by Mr. and Mrs. Martens-Mulder. Jan Cornelis Martens and his wife Roelfina Mulder were both born in Groningen. Later, in 1927, they settled in Utrecht, where, actively supported by his wife, Jan Cornelis established his own general practice. They were progressive and idealistic, and alongside their work, they developed a keen interest in the visual arts and silversmithing. Now, after years of extensive research by silver specialist Jean-Pierre van Rijen, a beautiful and comprehensive book has been created that describes and showcases the entire collection. A special feature of the book is the extensive attention, both in words and images, to the context of the silver. What were the functions of silver and how was it used? Because knowing these stories truly brings silver to life, according to Jean-Pierre van Rijen. That's why, in addition to the beautiful (detailed) photographs of the silver, we also include many images of paintings that reveal how silver was used and prints that show where the silversmiths drew their inspiration. In the spirit of Mr. and Mrs. Martens-Mulder, this book visualizes and shares the knowledge and history of silver.
