Takahiro Miyashita, the founding designer, was born in Tokyo in 1973. He taught himself how to make clothes. In 1996, he became independent from Nepenthes (which operates Engineered Garments, etc.), where he worked as a planner and buyer.
In November 1996, he established KOOKS CO., LTD. and launched "NUMBER (N)INE". The brand name is derived from the Beatles' song "Revolution ".
