This is a handwritten letter. The man's signature looks like B. Craney, but could be something. He is talking to his cousin Asa Peavy of Butler County Alabama about leaving his home there for Texas. The letter mentions things he's seen on his trip including "Jinarl Jackson and Wife on His Big White Horse" Which I believe is referring to Andrew Jackson and possibly his horse Sam Patch. Also mentions other things such as steamboats, Indians and watermelons. Very interesting piece. I am Based on some other documents I have from Asa Peavy giving me an estimate of his age at the time, and if his account of seeing Jackson was referring to the real Andrew Jackson, the time period is likely around 1815, but could be as late as 1830 or slightly later. The letter is written mostly phonetically but is relatively easy to read. One of a kind piece.
