Beautiful replica of the Edward Wyon relief of the Calmady sisters. It is made out of a type of Plaster. It is in great condition without any cracks. I see a teeny chip on the outside left border.
Some History of this relief.
In 1823 Sir Thomas Lawrence painted an oil painting of the The Calmady Children (Emily, 1818–1906, and Laura Anne, 1820–1894). This painting shows the “exuberance of childhood” and of it Sir Thomas said: 'This is my best picture. I have no hesitation in saying so-my best picture of the kind, one of the few I should wish here-after to be known by.'
Later, in 1848, English Sculptor Edward Wyon used the painting of the Calmady Children to make his own sculpted relief out of “fictile ivory”. This is a replica of that.
